my best day out in the south west

Earlier this year Seasalt supported a fun project that was spreading a message about sustainable tourism.

Future Footprints, the region's sustainable tourism project, helps visitors and residents to 'Keep the South West Special' - for today and for the future. It encourages people to choose local food and products, and to explore without using their car (where possible) and take to rail, water, two wheels or their feet instead!

We think they are doing a great job so we gave them some Seasalt goodies for a competition they ran back in the summer.

They invited children to draw their 'best day out in the South West' on a postcard - for a chance to make and name their own ice cream!

Over 500 entries later the lucky winners were announced.

The overall winner was 6 year old Abigail from Exmouth, for her drawing of a day out cycling the Camel Trail (above) and Isabel Cunningham, 5 years old from Bristol won the Seasalt goodies for her postcard in the age 5-7 category (below).

Abigail and her mother Beverly enjoyed her prize day out at Roskilly's, meeting the team responsible for creating Roskilly's ice cream. With the help of ice cream maker Jane, Abigail got stuck in and created and mixed her own special flavour -'strawberry swirl surprise'. Three tubs of her ice cream, full of strawberry, white chocolate and fudge and decorated with malteasers and sprinkles, were made with care. Abigail said the day was 'even better' than she expected, and that she is planning to share a tub of ice cream with her class at Withycombe Raleigh Primary School and another with her family - she'll even allow her big brother Charlie to have a scoop!
